What is the GROWing Together Project?
Parents have important roles throughout the lives of their children, but especially within the first few years which is a critical period for growth and development. We strive to make sure local and nationwide resources and services are meeting the needs of Indigenous parents to help them fulfill their parenting role.
Traditionally, all members of Indigenous communities played a vital role in caring for children, including:
fulfilling numerous parenting roles
passing down language, culture, and tradition
promoting strength and resilience.
Today’s society, however, is constantly challenging traditional Indigenous parenting roles, particularly within 2SLGBTQQIA communities.
Together with the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre (HRIC), we hope to bring together Indigenous parents to hear about their aspirations for parenting services in the city of Hamilton, ON.
We are building a plan to address community needs and want parents like you to have a voice in the process.
